Trace of the recent explosion at Bogoslof on AVO's OKRE seismic station (on the northern flank of Okmok volcano approx. 50 km to the south of Bogoslof)
It only lasted about 5 minutes, but produced an ash plume that reached 35,000 ft (12 km) altitude and was also spotted by pilots en route nearby.
The volcanic cloud moved north from the volcano.
The Aviation Color Code remains at RED (after it had temporarily been lowered to ORANGE earlier) as "additional explosive events at Bogoslof may occur without warning", the Alaska Volcano Observatory stressed.
