Trace of the recent explosion at Bogoslof on AVO's OKRE seismic station (on the northern flank of Okmok volcano approx. 50 km to the south)
The Alaska Volcano Observatory noticed an increase in seismic activity from around 13:00 AKST local time (22:00 UTC). Two hours later, pilots confirmed that an explosive eruption produced a plume that rose to at least flight level 310 (31,000 ft or 9.5 km altitude) and has been drifting northeast.
