Tapponnier and Molnar (1977) document from satellite photographs a large volcanic field with fresh features suggesting possible eruptions within historical times. Hang (1989 pers. comm.) indicates that extensive dating by Yang indicates the youngest eruptions were of late Pleistocene age.---
