After almost 24 hours after the activity began, several dozens of quakes with magnitude range up to M 3.0 took place between 01:30 and 06:00 local time. Earthquakes were located 44 km southeast of Nāʻālehu at depths between 2 and 16 km. A swarm of earthquakes, characterized by seismic pulses at roughly regular intervals of 15-20 minutes, is still continuing. This may signalize magma movements under the surface.
According to the HVO scientist-in-charge Ken Hon, the activity is not expected to lead to an eruption.
