An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 20 minutes ago 45 km south of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Tashkent, Uzbekistan, early morning on Saturday 6 March 2021 at 2:52 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.

In Piskent (pop. 27,900) located 7 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Olmaliq (pop. 121,200) located 27 km from the epicenter, Ohangaron (pop. 35,500) 31 km away, Yangiyŭl (pop. 60,000) 34 km away, and Zafar (pop. 24,800) 35 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chinaz (pop. 24,600) located 44 km from the epicenter, and Tashkent (pop. 1,978,000) 45 km away.
