A very strong magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in the South Pacific Ocean 73 km (45 mi) from  New Zealand around noon of Friday, Jan 8, 2021 at 12.28 pm local time (GMT +12). The quake had a moderate depth of 221 km (137 mi) and was not felt (or at least not reported so).
