Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update: strombolian explosions, two lava flows

Weak constant locomotive-like degassing noises are noted. During the latest 24 hour observation period, 9 weak explosions were counted that produced light ash clouds rising 200 m and drifting west. In addition, pulsating strombolian activity ejecting glowing bombs to 100 m height were seen occurring at intervals of 10-15 minutes.

INSIVUMEH reported that on 22 August the seismic network at Fuego detected lahars that traveled SE down the Las Lajas and El Jute drainages. During 22-27 August lava flows traveled 150-300 m down the Taniluyá drainage (SW) and as far as 400 m down the Ceniza drainage (SSW), generating incandescent block avalanches that reached vegetated areas. Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update: lava flow increases in length, weak explosions
The lava flow towards the canyon Taniluyá has increased in length and now reaches 500 meters. From its front blocks detach and roll down to the edge of the vegetation. Read all
