Karangetang volcano (Siau Island, Indonesia): new eruption

MODIS hot spots at Karangetang during the past 7 days (MODVOLC, Univ. Hawaii)
A number of people have been evacuated from areas at less than 3 km distance from the volcano. The main hazard are pyroclastic flows that the volcano often generates when activity is elevated.
VSI keeps the volcano at alert level 3 (out of 4), at which it has been since 3 Sep 2013.

Based on observations conducted at the Karangetang Volcano Observation Post in the village of Salili, PVMBG reported that white plumes rose as high as 350 m above Karangetang's main crater and 25 m above Crater II during 22-29 April. Incandescence from the lava dome was observed at night. Karangetang volcano (Siau Island, Indonesia) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 22 April-28 April 2015 (Continuing Activity)
PVMBG reported that during 15-22 April diffuse white and bluish-white plumes rose as high as 300 m above Karangetang's main crater and 25 m above Crater II.
