The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded 78 small-magnitude earthquakes on Mauna Loa's summit and upper-elevation flanks over the past week. Over the past week, HVO recorded 47 small-magnitude earthquakes on the Mauna Loa's summit and upper-elevation flanks. Most of these earthquakes occurred at shallow depths of less than 8 kilometers (~5 miles) below ground level, with the largest measuring magnitude 2.1 on the volcano's northwest flank.
