Michael volcano (Saunders Island, South Sandwich archipelago): significant hot spots indicate new activity
A new eruption is likely underway at the remote volcano (also called like the whole island, Saunders). Since mid October, prominent heat signals coming from the summit of Michael cone can be retrieved on satellite data, but there are no direct (visual or other) observations. Read all
