Soufriere Hills volcano (Montserrat, West Indies (UK)) activity update: incandescent spots at lava dome

During 4-11 May activity at the Soufrière Hills lava dome was at a low level. Multiple areas of incandescence on the lava dome, at temperatures greater that 500 degrees Celsius, were visible on 5 May.
Heavy rains on 10 May generated a small lahar in the Belham Valley (NW).

Soufriere Hills volcano (Montserrat, West Indies (UK)) activity update: incandescent spot at lava dome
MVO reported that the cloud cover which often obscures views of the Soufrière Hills lava dome cleared for a short period on 5 May, revealing multiple areas of incandescence, the same ones first observed on 11 November 2011. Some of the areas were visible to the naked eye while more were visible in a long-exposure photograph. Read all
