The seismic instrument detected 13 volcano-tectonic earthquakes on 5 March, seven on 6 and 7 March, located at depths between 1.5 and 2 km under the Dolomieu crater. Earthquakes have been of low magnitude, i.e. weaker than M 1.
The elevated seismic activity follows a resumption of the ground inflation since mid-late February.
The resurgence of the seismic activity follows of a pressurization of magma within magma reservoir and signals its resuming. This process may take several days to weeks until the pressure within chamber is sufficient enough to trigger magma intrusion into the dike/s. On the contrary, signs of elevated activity may cease.
