Incandescence from the crater at night
During 28-29 Oct, the monitoring system of Popocatepetl volcano registered 35 exhalations of low to moderate intensity, accompanied by emissions of steam, gas and occasionally minor amounts of ash, the most important occurred at 21:33 pm on 28 Oct, at 5:01 am and at 9:27 am on 29 Oct.
After a slight increase in activity last week, Popo has been calmer during 27-28 Oct with only about 1 weak explosion per hour, some of which contained small amounts of ash.
During 26-27 Oct, the monitoring system of Popocatepetl recorded 48 exhalations of low to moderate intensity, accompanied by steam, gas and some amounts of ash.
Explosion During the early hours of October 26, 2012
During 25-26 Oct, 70 explosions of low to moderate intensity occurred, several of which produced ash clouds reaching a height between 1.5 and 2 km above the crater. During the night glow was observed and some explosions ejected incandescent bombs to the outer flanks of the crater (see image).
SO2 plume from Popocatépetl on 24 Oct 2012 (NOAA)
During 23-24 Oct, 36 weak explosions of mainly steam were registered, only few of which also produced some small ash plumes.
The activity has decreased again. During 22-23 Oct, 39 small explosions, some with weak ash plumes, were recorded. Crater glow is still visible at night, and some small earthquakes continue under the volcano.
CENAPRED reported that during 23-30 October seismicity at Popocatépetl indicated continuing gas-and-steam emissions that contained ash. Incandescence from the crater was observed at night during 23-24 and 28-30 October. Incandescent tephra was ejected from the crater on 26 October.
SO2 plume from Popocatépetl on October 21, 2012 (NOAA)
85 weak to moderate explosions were recorded in the past 24 hours. Only some of them were accompanied by fine ash emissions.

Explosion at 05:34 am on 20 October
In the last 24 hours (19-20 October), 129 explosions and 200 minutes of harmonic tremor in several segments were recorded. When the volcano was clear, most exhalations were accompanied by ash plumes that mostly spread westwards. Incandescence is seen at night in the crater of the volcano.

SO2 plume from Popocatépetl on October 17, 2012 (NOAA)
52 exhalations of low to moderate intensity occurred during 16-17 Oct. Some were producing small ash plumes up to 1 km high, and ejected glowing bombs visible at night.

CENAPRED reported that during 15-23 October seismicity at Popocatépetl indicated continuing gas-and-steam emissions that occasionally contained variable amounts of ash; the plumes rose .5-1 km and drifted NW, W, and SW. Incandescence from the crater was observed at night. During 15-16 and 20 October incandescent tephra was ejected 1 km above the crater and fell back in the crater or on the flanks.

Ash emission on 14 Oct
23 exhalations of low to medium intensity with steam and sometimes ash emissions occurred during 13-14 Oct, the most important at 19:01 pm local time on 13 Oct and at 09:57 h today. The latter produced a column that moved 1.5 km west-southwest and was noted by VAAC.
