Small ash emission from Popo this morning (CENAPRED webcam)
The activity at the volcano has remained essentially unchanged and been rather low during the past week. On average, CENAPRED recorded 100-200 low-energy emissions ("exhalations") and few, generally weak explosions with ash emissions, accompanied by intermittent phases of weak tremor.
During 20-26 July CENAPRED reported 26-182 daily emissions from Popocatépetl, some of which contained minor amounts of ash. Cloud cover often prevented observations, though gas-and-steam plumes were visible almost daily. Crater incandescence was visible on some nights.

Ash emissions from Popocatépetl Sunday morning (Webcams de Mexico webcam)
The activity at the volcano remains essentially unchanged and CENAPRED maintains alert level "Yellow Phase 2". As magma continues to slowly rise inside the conduit, it accumulates in the inner summit crater as a flat pancake-shaped dome and causes small to moderate intermittent explosions with more or less ash.

During 29 June-5 July the seismic network at Popocatépetl detected 128-193 daily emissions and as many as five daily explosions. Cloud cover often prevented observations, although crater incandescence was visible every night. Explosions at 1348 and 1405 on 4 July produced ash plumes that rose 1.5 and 1.2 km above the crater, respectively.

Mushroom cloud from Popocatépetl volcano yesterday (CENAPRED webcam)
A moderately strong vulcanian explosion occurred yesterday morning at 11:17 local time, producing a mushroom-shaped ash plume that rose approx. 3 km above the summit and dispersed in westerly directions.

During 8-14 June there were 47-104 daily emissions from Popocatépetl and as many as six explosions detected daily; some emissions contained minor amounts of ash. Cloud cover often prevented observations, though crater incandescence was visible every night. During 0638-1130 on 9 June continuous ash emissions rose as high as 1 km above the crater rim and drifted NE.

During 1-7 June there were 94-251 daily emissions from Popocatépetl and as many as four explosions detected daily; some emissions corresponded with increased crater incandescence at night. A series of explosions detected during 1135-2230 on 4 June generated gas-and-steam emissions with minor amounts of ash that rose 1.5 km above the crater and drifted ENE. Some of the explosions ejected incandescent tephra 300 m onto the NE flanks.

During 18-24 May there were 43-492 daily emissions from Popocatépetl and as many as eight explosions detected daily; some emissions corresponded with increased crater incandescence at night. Periods of low-amplitude harmonic tremor were also detected almost daily. Daily cloud cover prevented visual observations.

Steam emission ("exhalation") from Popo yesterday
Following Monday's large explosive activity (2 hours of lava fountaining), the volcano returned to be relatively calm, producing only steam emissions and no significant explosions.

Paroxysm at Popocatépetl volcano yesterday morning
A large summit eruption (a paroxysm) occurred during yesterday night at the volcano. The eruption began around 02:15 local time on 18 April, when ash emissions and individual explosions in the summit crater increased, followed by a strong eruptive phase with continuous lava fountains that lasted over 2 hours.

Weak explosion of El Popo yesterday night
The activity of the volcano has been relatively low during the past days, after the series of stronger explosions in early April had destroyed the previous lava dome. CENAPRED reported 74 weak emissions and one explosion over the past 24 hours.

During 13-17 April CENAPRED reported 10-105 emissions from Popocatépetl and as many as two explosions detected daily; some emissions corresponded with increased crater incandescence. Activity increased at 0232 on 18 April. Strombolian activity ejected incandescent fragments 1.6 km onto the NE flank, and ash plumes rose 3 km above the crater and drifted ENE.

During 6-12 April there were 38-136 emissions from Popocatépetl and as many as six explosions detected daily; some emissions corresponded with increased crater incandescence. Periods of low-amplitude harmonic tremor were detected during 6-8 April. An explosion at 0111 on 9 April produced a gas-and-ash plume that rose 1.5 km above the crater and drifted NE, and ejected incandescent fragments 300 m away onto the E flank.

Eruption of Popocatépetl last evening
The volcano had a relatively strong explosion yesterday evening at 20:31 local time. It produced a 2 km ash column and ejected incandescent fragments that landed in to up to 3.5 km distance on the eastern and southeastern flanks, igniting some bush fires on the upper slopes of the volcano.

Strong explosion at Popocatépetl Tuesday afternoon
No significant changes in activity have occurred at the volcano recently despite a series of stronger explosions during the past days. One explosion on Tuesday afternoon generated an ash plume that rose up to 3.5 km, and another one during the following night was seen ejecting abundant incandescent material outside the summit crater.

At 1200 on 30 March CENAPRED reported that during the previous 24 hours the seismic network at Popocatépetl recorded 179 emissions and four explosions. Ash plumes from the explosions rose as high as 3.5 km above the crater; ash from the explosions caused Puebla's airport to close from 2000 on 29 March to 0600 on 30 March.
