Papua New Guinea: Adopt a school child

For 70 Euro, a child can attend school for a year. Geamolio loves her new solar light.
The environment benefits, and also the health of the people: They need less fire inside the huts, therefore, there is less smoke, the cause of chronic bronchitis.
Most children on Matupit Island near Rabaul dont have the money to attend school.
in 2011, two expeditions from VolcanoDiscovery could see for themselves and an idea was born: We will give scholarships to school children.
Photographer and Guide Ulla Lohmann: "We do not only want to travel there to profit from the people, we want to make a difference for them".
The program has started with 5 adopted school children, but thanks to PPAF e.V., the "Pacific People Aid Fund", will be able to support 20 more children for the next year.
The association PPAF e.V. was founded by Guy Franquinet, who participated in the VolcanoDiscovery Journey VANUATU 2010, led by Lohmann. He was touched to see the people living in such poor conditions, but being so happy and decided to help. So far, PPAF e.V. has brought many solar torches to the South Pacific and has donated medication to a local hospital.
For every participant of the VolcanoDiscovery Journeys "Vanuatu" (with Ulla Lohmann) and "Papua New Guinea", a donation will be made to PPAF e.V. to help more children to attend school.

Rabaul volcano (New Britain, Papua New Guinea) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 10 August-16 August 2011 (New Activity / Unrest)
RVO reported a decline in frequency of ash emission from Rabaul caldera's Tavurvur cone during 9-12 August, and no distinct explosions were detected. Ash-rich plumes rose 1 km above the crater and drifted NW, causing ashfall in Rabaul town (3-5 km NW) and in areas between Toliap (10 km NW) and Tavui. Seismicity was very low, consisting of sub-continuous volcanic tremor associated with the ash emissions and some small discrete low-frequency earthquakes. ... Read all
