After about a week of weak activity, Redoubt exploded again on April 4th. Our team member Marco Fulle is on location and reports heavy thunderstorms from below the 15 km tall ash plume. More details and photos will be available soon. - All news about: Redoubt volcano

During 1-3 April, AVO reported that Redoubt continued to emit steam, gases, and minor amounts of ash visible on the Redoubt Hut web camera. On 1 and 2 April, satellite images showed a plume containing some ash extending about 65 km ENE at altitudes of 4.6-7.6 km (15,000-25,000 ft) a.s.l. Redoubt volcano (Alaska), activity update: large eruption on 26 March 2009: plume to 60-65,000 ft (20-25km)
A major eruption of sub-plinian to plinian type took place at Redoubt this morning, sending an ash plume to more than 60,000 ft altitude (>20km), as AVO reports. The eruption, by far the largest in its new cycle of activity so far, started at 09:24 am local time, following a few days with lower activity after the powerful explosions on March 22-23. ...
