The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) recorded an earthquake with magnitude M 3.2 at 16:17 local time near Kleifarvatn yesterday. Around 30 smaller earthquakes have been measured in there since 1 March. An earthquake of this magnitude (>M3.0) last occurred in August 2019. Earthquakes are common in the area.
The ongoing seismic swarm is decreasing since 15 February. About 750 earthquakes have been detected in the area since then.
IMO warns about CO2 emissions reached hazardous levels and low levels of O2 that were measured at the cave (popular for hikers) in the Eldvörp area on the Reykjanes Peninsula on 20 February.
