The Instituto Geofísico del Perú (IGP) reported that the seismicity at the volcano has increased over the past week. The seismic instruments detected 2 208 volcano-tectonic earthquakes related to rock fracturing and flux of magma rising within the volcano. Earthquakes were located mainly north, northwest and northeast within a range M 2.4 and M 3.9 at 8 km depth.
Instruments detected a slight inflation on the southeastern flank of Sabancaya volcano and on the north flank of the Hualca Hualca volcano.
Surveillance cameras observed near-constant explosive activity that producing frequent ash emissions at regular intervals 43 per day. A vulcanian-type explosions generated an ash content which rose approx. 11,482 ft (3,500 m) above the summit and drifted S-SE-E.
Lahars (mud flows) could also occur if heavy rainfalls remobilise the fresh ash deposits.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 12 km distance from the crater.
