Ash clouds reached up to 3.5 km height above the crater and drifted up to 30 km mostly in westerly directions before dissipating. Buenos Aires VAAC regularly issues related warnings to aviation.
The volcano observatory reported that seismic activity has been dominated by signals produced by circulating fluids in the hydrothermal system (long-period events). This indicates that the system is in unstable condition and likely causes the explosions rather than new magma rising to the surface. In fact, almost no seismic events related to ascent of fresh magma are being detected, IGP reports.
Weak thermal anomalies are being detected on the summit crater in satellite data.
