An explosion this morning produced an ash plume rising to 14,000 ft (4.2 km) altitude. This is the latest of the currently intense eruptive phase of ash emissions and frequent vulcanian explosions (at least 6 during yesterday). - All news about: Sakurajima volcano

JMA reported that 15 explosions from Sakura-jima's Showa Crater ejected tephra as far as 1,300 m during 2-6 September. Incandescence from the crater was visible some nights. An explosion at 1100 on 4 September generated an ash plume that rose 2.8 km and drifted S, causing ashfall in areas downwind including Arimuracho (4 km SSE).
