Pyroclastic flows from Sangay volcano yesterday (image: IGEPN)
A moderate explosion is being observed by surveillance cameras yesterday which reached approx. 22,000 ft (6,700 m) altitude and drifted SE. Explosion causes ash fall in Chimborazo and Cañar areas.
It also produced pyroclastic flows that traveled over the south-eastern slopes, as can be seen in the image.
Lava flow continues to be active on the east slopes of the volcano.
Lahars (mud flows) could also occur if heavy rainfalls remobilise the fresh ash deposits.
