On 11, 14, and 15 December, INSIVUMEH reported that explosions from Santa María's Santiaguito lava dome complex produced ash plumes that rose to altitudes of 2.8-3.5 km (9,200-11,500 ft) a.s.l. and drifted W and SW. Avalanches occasionally descended the SE flank of the dome.
