Santa María / Santiaguito volcano (Guatemala) activity update

There were 2 weak explosions with some incandescence visible at 04:39 and 05:47 h local time early today, producing ash and steam plumes up to 700 m high. The lava flows from the dome remain weakly active and produce avalanches of blocks from their fronts.

Ash explosion and a clear view of the lava dome this morning (INSIVUMEH)
A mild ash explosion from the lava dome occurred this morning with a weak plume rising to 3100 m altitude. Activity otherwise remains mainly effusive. The thick block lava flows that descend from the summit are still weakly active and produce avalanches of rocks detaching from their fronts.
