Soputan volcano (North Sulawesi): increased seismic and degassing activity triggers eruption warning

An eruption alert was issued for Soputan volcano on North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Dduring 21-27 May, people from the village of Maliku noted steaming from the volcano that created white plumes rising 50-150 m above the crater.
A steep increase in seismic activity was recorded on 25 May and CVGHM raised the Alert Level to 3 (on a scale of 1-4) on 28 May.

CVGHM reported that seismicity at Soputan significantly decreased after the eruption on 14 August until 7 September. White plumes rose at most 200 m above the crater during 14-18 August, up to 150 m above the crater during 19-28 August, and as high as 100 m above the crater during 29 August-7 September.
