Stromboli volcano lava flow 22-25 Aug 2014

Time-lapse video of Stromboli volcano's lava flow seen through INGV's thermal camera on the Sciara del Fuoco. Activity is strongly fluctuating with alternating surges in lava effusion and phases of decreasing activity, resulting in the formation of new channels. A new well-alimented lava flow descending close to the eastern cliff of the Sciara (to the left) delevoped today, following the shift of direction of the lava exiting from the vent. Stromboli volcano lava flow 8-21 Aug 2014

Time-lapse video of Stromboli volcano's lava flow seen through INGV's thermal webcam on the Sciara del Fuoco. Fluctuating lava effusion rates during the past days causes several surges of lava and formation of (temporary) new lava channels. Stromboli volcano lava flow night 9-10 Aug (zoom)

Zoom onto Stromboli volcano's lava flow on the middle section of the Sciara del Fuoco. As the lava cools a bit and becomes more viscous, it forms pulses of accumulating lava masses in the flow where lava is dammed by slower-moving sections. One is seen in this zoom.
