Activity is strongly fluctuating with alternating surges in lava effusion and phases of decreasing activity, resulting in the formation of new channels. A new well-alimented lava flow descending close to the eastern cliff of the Sciara (to the left) delevoped today, following the shift of direction of the lava exiting from the vent. During a phase of elevated activity in January 2013, Stromboli produced several small lava flows from the NE vent as well as exceptionally large and bright strombolian explosions.
