Current activity level is high (image: LBZ)
Activity at the volcano remains intense, but as typical for the volcano: Several vents, most notably the collapsed western and northeastern ones show very frequent moderate to strong strombolian explosions and near-continuous spattering.
Both areas in the crater had suffered major collapse during the 3 July paroxysm as fresh aerial images published by INGV showed. It can be estimated that a volume equivalent of the combined erupted material since 2014 has been removed during the event. When it occurred, two separate pyroclastic flows were traveling down the Sciara as can be seen on the attached webcam image.
