Background
Nepheline basaltic pyroclastic cones near the village of Thomazeau, ENE of Port-au-Prince, represent, along with Morne la Vigie to west, the youngest volcanism in Haiti, dated at about 1.5 million years (Wadge and Wooden, 1982; Haiti Bureau of Mines and Energy brochure). Three volcanic episodes happened successively at Thomazeau, and morphologically, the youngest cone is well preserved, with an easily distinguished lava flow.---
