Background
Takara Hirase is a group of small islets along a NE-SW trend NE of Kuchino-shima. The highest islet reaches 27 m above sea level above a 600-m-high submarine rise. The rocks are altered but were considered of probable Quaternary age (Nakano et al., 2001-).---
