Yasur volcano (Vanuatu): alert level rises to 3 (out of 4) - crater is closed

The alert level of Yasur has gone up to 3 out of 4, the Vanuatu's department of geohazards decided early in June, due to increased activity. Access to the crater rim is now forbidden.

Yasur volcano (Vanuatu) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 11 May-17 May 2011 (New Activity / Unrest)

On 12 May, the Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory reported that, based on information collected by the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department, satellite imagery showed strong degassing from Yasur during the previous week.
