Another explosion occurred at the volcano this morning (late evening in Alaska) at about 22:16 AKST (07:16 UTC).
According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, "the eruption was preceded by about 50 minutes of seismic activity, and was recorded by several strong pulses of seismicity from 22:16 to 22:40 AKST (07:16 to 07:40 15 January UTC), a single lightning stroke at 22:32 AKST (07:32 15 January UTC), and by the infrasound arrays at Okmok volcano (Umnak Island) and in Dillingham.
"After about 20 minutes of quiet, two more seismic bursts started at 23:02 AKST (08:02 15 January UTC) and 23:18 AKST (08:18 15 January UTC), and lasted about nine and two minutes, respectively. These signals were not accompanied by infrasound or lightning. Since then, seismic levels have returned to lower levels.
"Satellite images show no obvious volcanic cloud from tonight's activity, though low-level meteorological clouds (about 10,000 ft asl) may be obscuring a very low volcanic cloud.
"The Aviation Color Code remains at ORANGE and the Alert Level remains at WATCH."
