MODIS hot spots on Saunders island during the past week (Univ. Hawaii)
A new eruption is likely underway at the remote volcano (also called like the whole island, Saunders). Since mid October, prominent heat signals coming from the summit of Michael cone can be retrieved on satellite data, but there are no direct (visual or other) observations.

NASA satellite image of Michael volcano (image: NASA via South Sandwich Islands Volcano Monitoring Blog)
One of the remotest active volcanoes is in eruption again. In a satellite image from 26 August 2015 obtained from the NASA's Earth Explorer program, the east flank of Mount Michael volcano can be seen stained grey which strongly indicates that an eruption took place.
Wed, 23 Jan 2013, 11:05No further hot spots have been noted recently on MODIS data. Status is set back to "green".

Hot spot at Michael volcano's summit on 2 Oct (MODIS, univ. Hawai'i)
A thermal hotspot was visible today on MODIS satellite imagery, suggesting that new activity is taking place, possibly a small lava lake forming as during periods of activity in recent years.
Wed, 12 Oct 2005, 06:00The first MODVOLC alerts at Mount Michael since May 2003 recently began, indicating an increased level of activity in the island's summit crater (and presumed lava lake). The alerts occurred on 3, 5, and 6 October.
