The explosive eruption of the volcano, that started on 1 September, for now already has ended or paused. The activity was characterized by low-level ash emissions.
The eruption calmed down on 6 September as Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo and the observatory Northern Mariana Islands detected ash and sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions in satellite data.
The alert level for the volcano was lowered to "yellow".
It is unclear whether the eruption has paused or ended. Emissions of ash and gas could resume without warning.
