Sabancaya volcano (Peru): weekly volcanic activity report 27 Jul-2 Aug 2020

The activity of the volcano continues at moderately levels.
Surveillance cameras observed near-constant explosive activity that producing frequent ash emissions and vulcanian-type explosions. An ash plumes rose approx. 7,545 ft (2,300 m) above the summit and drifted S-SE-SW and W. Additionally recorded small to moderate explosions at regular intervals 27 per day.
The Instituto Geofísico del Perú (IGP) recorded during 27 Jul-2 Aug 2020 1519 volcano-tectonic earthquakes associated with magma rising and 407 earthquakes associated with rock fracturing. Earthquakes were located mainly north and northeast of the volcano at depths between 10 and 18 km with magnitude M 1.8 and 3.1.
Short-term electronic tilt monitoring on the southeastern and north flanks recorded a slight inflation.
Thermal anomaly associated with lava at the summit crater was observed in satellite images.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 12 km distance from the crater.
