Sakurajima volcano (Japan) activity update: explosions becoming more frequent

Since about a week ago, the frequency of explosions from the volcano has drastically increased and is now again almost similar to its intense phases of last year. On 13 August alone, a record number of 9 explosions were registered. Ash plumes have been rising to 5-10,000 ft (1.5-3 km) altitude.
