Bagana (Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: CONTINUOUS VA EMSSIONS TO FL140 OBS VA DTG:24/1130Z

Sinabung (Sumatra, Indonesia): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: GROUND REPORT OF ASH TO FL130 OBS VA DTG:24/1030Z

Dukono (Halmahera): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: CONTINUOUS VA EMISSIONS TO FL080 OBS VA DTG:24/1840Z
...24 Jan:
Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: VA OBS TO FL080 MOV SW AT 24/0010Z.

Takawangha (Tanaga Island, Aleutian Islands, Alaska): The alert level of the volcano was raised to yellow as the Alaska Volcano Observatory detected an energetic earthquake swarm on Tanaga Island 6-7 km ESE of the volcano.
The seismic swarm, which includes two quakes of magnitude 4.1 and 4.4 at 7 and 10 km depth, respectively, started yesterday and is continuing. It might be caused by magma movements at depth resulting in rock-fracturing as intruding magma pressurizes the host rocks to make itself space. It might be a precursor to new activity, although most volcanic earthquake swarms do not end in an eruption (magma often is stalled underground in the process).

Bogoslof (United States, Aleutian Islands): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Anchorage (VAAC) issued the following report: 140Z ERUPTION
...24 Jan:
Another explosion occurred at the volcano a short time ago. The Alaska Volcano Observatory reported:
"Following a period of increasing seismicity, an explosive eruption started at 04:53 AKST (13:53 UTC) this morning as shown in seismic data and by lightning detection.
We have not yet observed a volcanic cloud in satellite, but based on recent events with similar seismicity and lightning, we are raising the Aviation Color Code to RED and Alert Level to Warning." (AVO)

Colima (Western Mexico): (24 Jan) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Washington (VAAC) issued the following report: ONGOING VA EMS

Reventador (Ecuador): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Washington (VAAC) issued the following report: VA EMS HAS DISP

Sabancaya (Peru): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Buenos Aires (VAAC) issued the following report: INTERMITTENT EMISSIONS OF VA OBS VA DTG:24/1705Z
...24 Jan:
Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Buenos Aires (VAAC) issued the following report: SPORADIC PUFFS OF VA OBS VA DTG:24/0515Z

Erta Ale (Danakil depression, Ethiopia): The volcanic activity at the shield volcano in the Danakil desert has been at extraordinary and very elevated levels recently. Participant returning from our recent eruption special tour (14-20 Jan) reported that during their stay 16-20 Jan, the lava lake's surface level has been undergoing rapid and large variations, producing massive lava lake overflows when high and intense spattering when low.
The activity generated a thermal signal that rose to 13 GW, a peak of approx. 100 times the normal average on 19 Dec and has stayed very high since! Following / accompanying this large surge in lava flow activity, several large collapses have been reported from both the also active northern crater and the lava lake itself on and since 20 Jan. It seems that the volcano is currently in a major phase reshaping itself.

We truly love working to bring you the latest volcano and earthquake data from around the world. Maintaining our website and our free apps does require, however, considerable time and resources.
We need financing to increase hard- and software capacity as well as support our editor team. We're aiming to achieve uninterrupted service wherever an earthquake or volcano eruption unfolds, and your donations can make it happen! Every donation will be highly appreciated. If you find the information useful and would like to support our team in integrating further features, write great content, and in upgrading our soft- and hardware, please make a donation (PayPal or Online credit card payment).

Planned features:
  • Improved multilanguage support
  • Tsunami alerts
  • Faster responsiveness
Thanks to your past donations, these features have been added recently:
  • Design upgrade
  • Detailed quake stats
  • Additional seismic data sources
