Background
The deeply dissected 3-km-wide Crown Island is covered by rain forest. There is no known thermal activity or recorded eruptions. Young tephras on the island probably originate from Long Island (Johnson et al., 1972). Possible submarine debris-avalanche deposits lie both north and south of the island (Silver et al., 2009).---
